Review of Loeb's 'Dark Victory', Wednesday, September 01, 2010

It's a shame to see this book is no longer in print for the general public. Loeb and Sale present another gripping mystery, and manage to carry the story for nearly 400 pages, without losing this reader's interest. Visually, this is certainly one of the best Batman artists around. Loeb adds a great script to meet with Sale's images--the two do very well together.

Good, but not better than Long Holloween, Sunday, August 01, 2010

Dark Victory is not quite as good as The Long Halloween, but it would be almost impossible to accomplish such a feat. It's too heavily dependant on the original to stand on its own. But it's hard to think of a follow-up in comics equal to this. It's not just that the sequel is good, but it uses the events of the original to further explore the psychological makeup of the Dark Knight. While Dark Victory doesn't add a new light to the original (something it tries to do), it does add new context to the Batman we all know and love.

If you hated Long Halloween, there's nothing here for you, but if you loved the original, then this follow-up is a must.

I have read almost ALL of the Batman graphic novels, even Batman Vs. Predator, which I also reccmend, but this story is so nicely constructed and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time, I didn't want to put the book down. It has pretty much all of the gotham villians in it also, at their finest. If you are new to Batman I would reccomend this also.
