Product Description

With writers Roy Thomas, Michael Fleisher, and Bruce Jones contributing to The Savage Sword of Conan in the early 1980s, the action-filled comics magazine continued its long, successful run exploring the lush and dangerous world of Conan's Hyboria. This volume reprints most of the black-and-white Conan tales from 1981, with the artistic talents of John Buscema, Gil Kane, Ernie Chan, Ernie Colon, Alfredo Alcala, and others adding to the uncensored excitement! The Savage Sword creative teams presented in this latest tome deliver timeless adventures featuring Robert E. Howard's beloved barbarian, and such classics as the "Temple of the Tiger," "Dwellers in the Depths," and "Moat of Blood" are reprinted here for the first time ever! Collecting selections from The Savage Sword of Conan the Barbarian issues #61 through #71, this volume also includes the frontispieces and pinups from each issue, drawn by Alex Toth, Joe Chiodo, Ernie Chan, Carl Potts, Tony de Zuniga, and others!

Conan's adventures continue on..., Tuesday, April 27, 2010

The Savage Sword of Conan series continues its impressive run in volume 6 with issues #61-#71. Even with the addition of new writers aside from the brilliant Roy Thomas, the adventures of the Cimmerian still envolve plenty of encounters with wizards, demons, and beautiful women. The artwork is really well done, especially the demon creatures in many of the stories. If you have been collecting the entire series up to this point, this volume continues previous tales like "The Pool of the Black One/Torrent of Doom" from volume two and "The Citadel at the Center of Time" from volume one. Another good Conan read indeed.

Essas apresentam excelente qualidade. As demais deixam a desejar.

A really good volume, Thursday, September 17, 2009

Delivers everything you expect from _Savage Sword_ ... plenty of violence, sorcery, monsters, beautiful women, and so forth. The stories in this volume are well-crafted, smarter and more elaborate than some have been in the past. The art is really good too, definitely up to my expectations. Even Gil Kane (who failed miserably in an earlier volume) brings his "A" game, and the story he drew this time doesn't look bad at all.

My only quibble is that a lot of the incidental characters look so much like Conan that it occasionally becomes confusing. Also, Conan himself shifts personality from story to story, going from "grim stoical mercenary" to "happy-go-lucky wisecracking rogue." This can probably be attributed to the addition of some new scribes to the mix. Why did Roy Thomas not write everything in this volume? I wish there was a page or two of foreword to help the reader place these stories in a historical / industry context. I never saw any of _Savage Sword_ when they were first published; I was only 7 years old at the time.

All of these reprint volumes have been good in various ways, but this one may be the best overall out of 6 so far, or tied with volume 2.
